Three Peaks Challenge Coach Hire

The three peak national challenge is to climb, and travel between, the highest three peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. Scafell Pike in England, Ben Nevis in Scotland, and Snowdon in Wales within 24 hours. A total drive of some 460 miles, total walk of 24 miles, and a total vertical climb of 10,000 feet.

A great deal of logistic planning for this challenge is necessary, not least how to get your team between all of the mountains you must climb to meet the challenge. To ensure that teams who are taking the challenge are complying with the now complicated laws surrounding the use of minibuses for such challenges, many teams are now using coach hire companies to address the transportation problems.

Teams need to be aware of fairly recent changes to the law regarding provision of road transport passenger services, as some providers simply ignore the rules… Vehicles taking payment for transport with 9 or more passenger seats are classed as Public Service Vehicles, and can only be operated with a PSV Operators License. They must be driven by a PSV qualified driver, and must have Hire & Reward insurance.

Vehicles with 8 or less passenger seats should be as above, or operated as a Taxi under local authority control.

As a coach operator we must consider drivers hours regulations. In order to provide the necessary quality of service to meet the demanding time requirements of this event, but at the same time comply with the law, two drivers are required per coach. Finlandia Travel uses its mini coaches for this journey as the roads into the lake district are not suitable for full size coaches.

We enjoy being part of this event and Finlandia Travel demonstrate that by donating a prize to the person who the leaders consider has really given their all, and Finlandia Travel award them the “Spirit of the event” trophy.
